One Amazing Place is part of the Surreality Collection. Photographed in old Havana, Cuba, One Amazing Place brings out the historic character of Old Havana yet gives it an other worldly feeling with its surreal melting buildings and starry skies.
Sleeper Cell takes us to an destination on Oceana Drive where "sleeper droids" are glued to their transponders while awaiting instruction from their extraterrestrial handlers. Sleeper Cell captures the energy of Miami's South Beach Art Deco district with a dreamy surrealism feeling and beautiful warm color tones (green and gold). Sleeper Cell is the latest addition to the South Beach Surreality collection. It is finished as a 20x30 limited edition print on metallic paper, face mounted to optical grade acrylic. Factoid: The original photograph was a 20 second exposure intended to blur human movement and capture the setting in crisp detail. Several people were moving around and interacting giving the image life as intended; but something unusual also occurred. When I began processing the image, I realized three people in the setting had sat perfectly still for 20 seconds while staring into their cell phones. It struck me as how odd it was to be dining in this beautiful setting and being totally removed from their surroundings. These people are the sleepers. They are totally mesmerized by their electronic devices as the world passes by. They are the inspiration for the droids who are waiting for further instruction as the View product.
Solstacia is that bright tropical place we all want to be during the Winter Solstice. That's when this photo was made. Winter in Miami is paradise. Solstacia, a surreal view of Miami Beach's most prestigious neighborhood walk along the Government Cut South of Fifth street.
Termination at Park Central (30x42) Termination at Park Central is based on a new implementation of "Hit at Park Central". The HDR base image was recreated from three exposures of the Park Central Hotel on Ocean Avenue, South Beach, Miami Beach, FL to create smooth color gradients across the entire visual spectrum. The color temperature has also been adjusted from a cool blue to broader spectrum cool tones including magenta, yellow, and greens increasing the surreal perception. Printed with Epson archival inks on metallic paper Face mounted on 1/4" optical quality acrylic Unframed with hanging system (framing optional)
The famous South Miami Beach Clevelander hotel is seen through a surreal looking glass.
"They Walk Amongst Us" depicts a surreal world illuminated, not by sun or moon but by the light of a gaseous plasma. A giant female figure casually walks amongst castle visitors as one photographs her from behind. This fine art photograph is printed using archival inks on metallic paper then face mounted on 1/4" optical quality acrylic and framed with a black float frame complete with hanging system.
"Assuage to the Oracle of Knowledge" was created from a photograph of a courtyard in the center of Flagler College, St. Augustine, FL. It is my interpretation of the emotional conflicts of coming of age as a college age student. The image is distorted to create a sense that things are melting. An energy field surrounds the fountain orb transforming it into an oracle with life energy. The sky is a cosmic battle of good and evil. Questions about life and death emerge from the oracle and the granite marker in the foreground. A transgendered human stands in awe before the Oracle of Knowledge as the universe starts coming apart. Amongst all the turmoil there is a peace, a calmness, that emanates from the Oracle and fills the garden. Somehow I feel this describes the experience young people have in this place. It is a place for contemplation. It is a place for students to find peace in their complex lives as they transition from child to adult. It is a purgatory, a place for purification while waiting for the gates of opportunity to open.
Waldorf Hysteria 30" x 42" printed on metallic paper with archival inks and face mounted on 1/4 inch crystal clear acrylic for a very brilliant image with large color gamut and high contrast.
"Avalon Corner" is a surrealistic look at South Beach. The original photograph was taken during Art Deco Weekend one of the rare events when Ocean Drive is closed to vehicular traffic. It is intended to be playful and entertaining in a similar vein to Dr Suess or Alice in Wonderland. Its the way I imagine South Beach looks to many tourists who stay up all night partying at the clubs. The surrealistic style of this image was influenced by Salvador Dali. The vivid colors, starry sky, and textures were influenced by Vincent Van Gogh. Avalon Corner is printed on metallic paper with archival inks then face mounted on optical quality 1/4 inch acrylic. This application provides a modern looking presentation in a durable format with a wide gamut of color and strong contrast.
Steeped in Greek mythology, "Song of the Sirens" is a mystical exploit of beauty from the fashion world into the surreal. In Greek mythology, Sirens are beautiful, seductive muses who lure sailors to their death with their song. This stairway to the heavens is symbolic of the sailor's journey to another world. The liquid vision of his world might be the final hallucination of a drowning sailor who followed these muses to shipwreck on the rocks. Keeping with my theme of "We are not Alone" these two muses are seductively inviting the seaside sailor to follow them up the stairs to an extra-terrestrial encounter. Song of the Sirens presents my fusion of fashion photography with surrealism in the spirit of Salvador Dali and the influence of Vincent van Gogh's starry skies and saturated colors. The limited edition 14" x 21" print is available as an archival quality, metallic print face-mounted on optical grade 1/4 inch acrylic, complete with a hanging system (unframed).
A worm hole mysteriously appears in the sky above Miami Beach and the next minute, you're transported to an alternate universe. "Extraordinary Rendition from McAlpine" (20x30) is printed on metallic paper and face mounted on optical grade 1/4 inch acrylic for intense color and contrast. Includes a hanging system (unframed)
"Tonight's Creation" is printed on metallic paper with archival inks then face mounted on optical quality acrylic to maintain saturated colors and high contrast. Unframed with hanging system.
"Rings of Sintra" is printed with archival ink on metallic paper then face mounted on 1/4 inch optical grade acrylic. The mounted artwork includes a hanging system (unframed). NASA studies, based on observations from the Hubble Telescope, predict a distant future where our Milky Way galaxy will collide with our closest neighboring galaxy, Andromeda, and merge into a new galaxy. Stars will be slung around and reorganized into a spiral shape galaxy by enormous gravitational fields. Rings of Sintra anticipates an apocalyptic future where these two galaxies are colliding.
Photomanipulation applied to photographs to create images of a surreal world in the style of Salvador Dali. Influences of Vincent van Gogh through the use of saturated color and textures.
