Aphrodite, Psyche, Cleopatra, Delilah, Helen of Troy, Sappho, and Mata Hari come to mind as powerful female characters of history and mythology. These strong women are frequently characterized having hypnotic beauty as the power over their physically stronger, but vulnerable, male counterparts. Sometimes these women are heroes and sometimes villains.
Works from the Mystic Collection depict strong female characters with mystery and beauty in a surreal world. These works transform photographs of our world into other-worldly places. Visual stories are created by blending multiple photographs; including nude models, astronomical images, wildlife, and digital art compositions. The central characters in the Mystic Collection are women of tantalizing and surreal beauty.
First Encounter
First Encounter (above) depicts a surreal landscape based on a photograph of Kilchurn Castle in Scotland. The castle was originally constructed in the mid-fifteenth century and has fallen into ruination since being destroyed in 1760 by lightening. The unique characteristic of this castle leads itself to the “first encounter” story line. The castle is positioned at the tip of a long peninsula that provides limited access via a long and highly visible rocky footpath. The mistress of the castle stands tall confronting any approaching visitor with an intense stare. She is accompanied by her falcon above and magical koi who swims on land. In the background, the galactic sky is illuminated by a Saturn-like moon while small Illuminati peer from the dark windows of the castle. The mystique is amplified by this female guardian’s surreal beauty, standing nude, absent any armor or protection in defense of the castle.
