Photographic artist Sam Dobrow is thrilled to announce that his stunning infrared photograph, “Inside The Cat’s Eye,” has been chosen for the prestigious 4th Annual Gallerium Art Prize – GAP 2025 Exhibition. This international juried exhibition highlights bold artistic expression and meaningful creation, providing a dynamic platform for artists to connect with a global community beyond competition and cash prizes. Cash prize awards will be announced on November 8, 2025.
About “Inside The Cat’s Eye”
“Inside The Cat’s Eye” is a mesmerizing black and white infrared photograph captured inside a cave featuring an eye-shaped opening. The focal point is a lone tree whose round canopy perfectly fills the cave’s opening, resembling the pupil of a cat’s eye. Using an infrared camera, Sam Dobrow captures the leaves glowing bright white against a dramatic dark sky and the cave’s striped walls. The image evokes the feeling of humanity peering through a curious cat’s eye toward the cosmos, inviting viewers to reflect on their place within the larger universe through this surreal and otherworldly vision.
Creative Process and Techniques
Capturing this image presented unique challenges due to the confined space within the cave. Sam utilized an 11mm ultra wide-angle lens mounted on a tripod carefully positioned in a tight corner to frame the entire cave opening and tree canopy. Because infrared light is not measured by conventional photographic light meters, obtaining the optimum exposure involved a trial-and-error process. Multiple exposures were taken and then blended into a high dynamic range (HDR) image to balance the subtle interior cave light with the external illumination. This HDR image was further processed into a striking black and white photograph. Infrared photography remains central to Sam’s artistic voice by unveiling invisible spectrums of light and presenting alternative worlds beyond normal human perception.

“Inside The Cat’s Eye” belongs to Sam Dobrow’s acclaimed “Infrared Worlds” portfolio, which has received significant accolades. Notably, this image was selected for the cover of Dek Unu Magazine’s October 2025 artist spotlight issue, highlighting Sam’s distinctive vision in fine art photography. Seven (7) original prints from this collection, including “Inside The Cat’s Eye,” will be exhibited and available for sale at the Coconut Grove Art Walk on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
